Man sentenced to 10 years after stabbing nephew for allegedly stealing groceries

A Bultfontein man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail after he stabbed his nephew at a local restaurant for allegedly stealing his groceries.

On Saturday, 29 December 2018 at about 17:30, Tsietsi Dinga (28) and his nephew, Nkosana Vuthela (20) were at restaurant busy drinking beer. While drinking, an argument over a stolen groceries erupted. The uncle, Dinga, confronted his nephew, Nkosana Vuthela, accusing of stealing his groceries.

A fight ensued and both parties were carrying knives. The uncle then stabbed his nephew on the right of his neck, he bled profusely and died on the scene. The uncle fled the scene but was later arrested by Captain Benjamin Ramatsoele and his team of Bultfontein Crime Prevention.

A case of murder was registered and the docket was assigned to Sergeant Aupa Tshabalala for further investigation.

Dinga appeared before the Welkom Magistrate’s Court on 23 May 2019 and was found guilty. He was sentenced to 10 years. Major General Molale, Cluster Commander of Welkom applauded Sergeant Tshabalala for conducting a thorough investigation which led to the conviction. He also commended arresting officers led by Captain Ramatsoele ensuring that the accused was arrested to face the might of the law.
