Man busted with 16 bags of abalone in FS

The Reddersburg Xhariep District Operational Command Centre (DOCC) cornered a 26-year-old man on the N6 with 16 refuse bags filled with abalone on Wednesday 22 March.

According to Sergeant Martin Xuma, the Xhariep DOCC members were managing a vehicle checkpoint on the N6 passing through Reddersburg on Wednesday.

“At around 07:45 they stopped a sedan with an Eastern Cape registration number. Upon searching the car the police found 16 bags filled with more than 700 abalones.

“The 26-year-old driver, who was travelling from Gqebhera in the Eastern Cape and was heading to Bloemfontein, was apprehended,” said Xuma.

He added that the police further confiscated the vehicle used in the commission of the crime.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Reddersburg Magistrate’s Court facing a charge of unlawful possession of abalone.
