Local favourites into Junior SA finals

The local favourites Donna le Roux and Cornel Liebenberg will both be playing in the respective singles finals of the Tennis SA Junior Nationals Championships in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.

The 2nd seeded Le Roux, who is the daughter of the Free State and Springbok great, Ollie le Roux, will play in the girls’ under-16 final where she will be up against the 10th seeded Allegra van der Walt.

In the semi-finals Le Roux beat the 9th seeded Almé van Schalkwyk with a 6-3 and 6-3 win.

Van der Walt in her turn caused an upset with 6-4 and 6-0 win over the top-seeded Morgan Jordaan.

Meanwhile, in the boy’s under-18 singles the 7th seeded Liebenberg, who is the son of the former Free State and Proteas wicketkeeper, Gerhardus Liebenberg, will play in the final against the second seeded Rudiger Dusselberg.

Liebenberg has enjoyed a solid tournament and en route to the final he beat the top-seeded Drikus de Jager with a 6-4, 6-7 and 6-4 victory. In the semi-finals Liebenberg beat the 8th seeded Tiaan Nelson 7-5 and 6-3.

Dusselberg in turn didn’t hold back in the semi-finals with a convincing 6-1, 6-0 win over Senthen Reddy.
