Bloemfontein residents planning a visit to Lion’s Head will need to adjust their plans following the temporary closure of the popular Jeep Track route.
South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that the Jeep Track will be closed for essential maintenance from 20 April to 20 June, subject to project timelines and weather conditions.
Lion’s Head, located alongside Table Mountain, is a well-known hiking destination offering a relatively short but scenic route with panoramic 360-degree views of the Atlantic Seaboard, the city, and surrounding landscapes.
“During this period, the Jeep Track will not be accessible to the public. However, hikers will still be able to access the Lion’s Head summit via alternative routes,” SANParks confirmed.
Alternative access routes include the Kramat Trail on Signal Hill Road, the Upper Rhine Road Trail, and the trail from Kloof Road. The Lion’s Head parking area will remain open for visitors making use of the Kramat route.
SANParks noted that the maintenance project is aimed at improving trail safety and enhancing the overall visitor experience. Members of the public are urged to adhere to all posted signage and safety instructions during the closure period.
