Lesotho parliament still has a lot to learn regarding portfolio committees.
This is according to Pelele Letsoela, the delegation leader of the Lesotho parliament that is visiting Bloemfontein. Letsoela says their parliament was established in 1966 and they only started presenting portfolio committees in 2006.
Speaking at the Free State Legislature on Tuesday, Letsoela says they are visiting the province for a week to learn more on how the provincial legislature operates. He says parliament is a big platform that needs committees to be allocated in different departments for research…
“Portfolio committees are very important because so that the public can check how the money being allocated to the executive is being applied. Parliament is a representative of the public and it must do and honest and good job. We think committees are the best,” says Letsoela.
Letsoela says Lesotho parliament has 120 members. The provincial chairperson of the legislature portfolio committee on Health and Social Development Jonas Ramokhoase welcomed the delegation. He says they appreciated the fact that Lesotho delegates wants to learn from them.
“It is an honour to spend a week sharing our knowledge with the Lesotho delegates. We hope by the end of the week, they would leave here more equipped,” says Ramokhoase.
