Ladybrand hospital goes green

REFILWE MEKOA

Free State Public Works MEC Sisi Mabe says the new Mantsopa Hospital is going green with a reservoir that holds water for three weeks when Ladybrand residents run out of water.

She says she was delighted to hear residents expressing their joy on having a close-by health facility during her last inspection this afternoon. Construction of the hospital began in February 2010 when900 people were hired.

Mabe highlighted that Mantsopa will also assist those who used to travel long distances for major operations to Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein. The hospital accommodates 72 beds and will officially be handed over to the Department of Health next month.

Mabe says the already equipped hospital cost almost R300 million. “With this building we have gone green. You will find boilers there, unlike old hospitals that use coal to make sure there is warm or hot water. If we have load-shedding challenges like recently there is already a generator that automatically kicks in when the lights go off,” says Mabe.
