A march against gender based violence, lead by the male MECs in the Free State is set to just after 12:00 today.
According to Zama Sigwebla, the purpose of the march is to demonstrate support against gender based violence, rape and femicide.
“It is to indicate that gender based violence and femicide (GBVF) doesn’t affect only women and girl children, but men as well.
“We decided to host the march as men to stand up with women and children who are victims of GBVF in our society, and to raise awareness that as men we can’t keep quiet. We stand together to say enough is enough.”
According to Sigwebla, the march will be attended by members of society whom are concerned about GBVF, members of the Executive Committee of the Free State Government, ,govenment officials, NGO’s, members of different political parties in the province, as well as members of the private sector.
Sigwebla asked that society join the March to demonstrate their support for the GBVF and to assist victims not to hide and keep quite in their areas, but to stand and defend them to work with authorities to create a safer environment.
“The gender based violence, rape and women abuse it’s at a level to be declared a national crisis. Government, the private sector and the community must work together to ensure it comes to an end,” said Sigwebla.
The March will start from 888 Car Wash in Heidedal, Bloemfontein and proceed to the Heidedal Police station.
