Jampacked sporting activities at Clive Solomon

LEE KHOTLELE

Bloemfontein – The Bloemfontein Sport and Recreation Council will host a sporting event on Saturday, 16 August 2014, in celebration of the women’s month.

The event, which will feature various sporting codes, will take place at the Clive Solomon Stadium in Heidedal from 10am until in the afternoon.

The general secretary of Bloemfontein Sports council, Lehlohonolo Maduna, urged the public to turn up despite the event being organised for women to celebrate their month.

“Although the event is organised for women, we encourage men to come as well and take part in it,” Maduna said.

“The main sporting activities of the day are ladies soccer and volleyball, but the rest are just there to ensure that the event also accommodates those who do not play either soccer or volleyball,” he added.

Other sporting codes that will be featured are soft ball, volleyball, karate, judo, aerobics, netball, wrestling, cricket, boxing, swimming, rugby and athletics. The indigenous games are also going to be performed.

The finals in soccer and volleyball are expected to take place at 13:45.

“The prizes will not only be awarded to soccer and volleyball, but to other people who have been part of the event. We’ll be looking to give some people medals, for just being part and for enjoying the event.”

The Mangaung women from different sporting codes in different departments and companies, such as Senior Citizens, Municipality, Metro Sports Council, SAPS, etc. are expected to take part in the event.

The day will start with a fun walk from Twin City Mall to the stadium and an official opening will follow upon their arrival at the stadium. The activities will start immediately after the motivational talk from the guest speaker.

“We want the public to come in numbers and support all the codes that will be competing.”

“We also want everybody to come and have fun, because the aim is to empower women and ensure they enjoy their month,” Maduna concluded.
