Jack Russell without eye or ear found Bloemfontein SPCA searches for owners

The Bloemfontein SPCA is appealing to the public to help find the owners of this Jack Russell which was recently found. The dog has been very badly hurt at some point in its life and is missing an eye and an ear.

Apart from the missing eye and ear, there are several wounds and abrasions on the dog’s body. According to the SPCA veterinarian, the ear was removed recently as the wounds are still fresh. “We could understand if the dog’s eye was injured somehow and had to be removed but it is very suspicious that the dog’s ear is also missing,” said Reinet Meyer, Bloemfontein SPCA Senior Inspector. The dog was found at a school in downtown Bloemfontein.

“This dog must have gone through a very bad time, and much abuse took place here,” said Meyer. “We suspect that a pupil took the dog to school to show his friends but, after losing courage, pretended it was a stray”. The dog is currently under veterinarian care for a severe infection which developed on its cut ear. The dog is also undergoing treatment for the numerous other sores on its body. The SPCA is not aware of what may have caused these sores.

“We are appealing to the public to help. If you have any information about what happened to this dog, or know who the owner of the dog is, please contact the Bloemfontein SPCA on 051 447 3801”. All information will be kept confidential. Anyone wishing to make a financial contribution towards the dog’s veterinarian care can donate to: SPCA, Absa Bank, Account No: 9279102644, Branch code: 632005.
