Bloemfontein officials from Lengau traffic department as well as a police officer were arrested this morning (Wednesday), by the Hawks during an arrest operation that took place throughout various provinces. The total number of suspects are 18, of which after today’s operation three are still outstanding.
They were arrested on fraud and corruption charges, which include gratification and money laundering.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Lynda Steyn, information was gained by the Hawks and the operation escalated, covering the various provinces. Steyn said admin clerks and a police officer were arrested in Bloemfontein today, and are part of the bigger syndicate.

“Road worthy certificates were handed to community members even though their cars were not road worthy and then a gratification was asked for it,” explained Steyn. She explained the investigation had started last year October and provinces involved were Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Limpopo and the Free State.
The suspects will be appearing together with the other suspects from the other provinces in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
