The Free State Provincial Government has congratulated Bokang Mokubung, a 17-year-old learner from Bluegumbosch Secondary School in Phuthaditjhaba, for his outstanding academic achievement after he obtained first position among the top three learners in quintile 3 schools nationwide for Mathematics.
According to FSPG, his teachers have described him as a special learner whose success is due to continuous hard work and dedication. Mokubung lost his father before he was born, but his family provided strong support that helped him stay focused on his education.
“He took those lessons and instilled them into his classmates. During the 2025 school year, Mokubung would leave his house early to make it to school before teaching commenced to assist his fellow classmates and they would do the same in the afternoon.”
He plans to study Actuarial Sciences at the University of Pretoria this year. His Mathematics teacher, Ernest Thabo Moroane, said Mokubung’s achievement came as no surprise.
“I have a passion for teaching and assisting those in need and that is why it was important for me to try and help those who were in need. I am happy that my efforts were not in vain because looking at the social media posts of most of my classmates, they did well in mathematics. It was all worth it and I am proud,” said Mokubung.
Speaking about the learner’s determination, Moroane said Mokubung was always willing to assist fellow learners. “He would arrive early at the school and leave late in the afternoon to ensure that other learners did not struggle. I am not surprised with his achievement because he worked hard for it and it is well deserved.”
Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae commended Mokubung for his dedication and the sacrifices he made on his academic journey. “The Free State Provincial Government congratulates Bokang Mokubung for his wonderful achievement. Through hard work, Bokang has put our province on the map and we take this moment to say well done to him and wish him all the best for the future.”
