FS Heritage Day celebrations

The hosting of 19th Heritage Day celebrations will be conducted with the rationale to
promote and popularize our heritage in its multi-faceted forms. The theme for 2013
Heritage Day is: “Reclaiming, restoring and celebrating our living heritage”. The
2013 Heritage Day will be celebrated highlight the following:
a) To encourage discussions around what constitutes our heritage both
tangible and intangible, movable and immovable, cultural and natural;
b) Promote the use of traditional attire, traditional cuisine/dishes, diverse
cultural expressions and indigenous languages;
c) Encourage discussions on the role of heritage in socio-economic
development, national reconciliation, nation building, social cohesion
and fostering national identity;
d) Encourage debates and symposia about cultural practices that fall
outside our constitution.
The provincial celebration in the Free State will be staged as follows:

Venue: Ficksburg Showgrounds (Ficksburg)
The main focus of the program will be on messages from leaders of government,
cultural performances and exhibitions which relates to the theme.
The build-up activities towards the 24th of September 2013 will consist of the
following:

b) Mobilisation campaigns (13-23/09/2013)
c) Youth Heritage Lekgotla in Ficksburg (21/09/2013); and
d) Memorial Lecture on Prophetess Annah Mantsopa in Modderpoort
(21 September 2013)
The Memorial Lecture on Prophetess Mantsopa in Modderpoort will also culminate
into the launch of name change of the Modderpoort Conference Facility which will be
named after Prophetess Annah Mantsopa.
The Youth Heritage Lekgotla aims to promote interaction with young people to
encourage discussions on the role of heritage in socio-economic development,
national reconciliation, nation building, social cohesion and fostering national
identity.
