FS Crime Prevention Strategy to be launched

A comprehensive Provincial Crime Prevention Strategy for the Free State Province will be launched on 11 July 2013.

The Department of Police, Roads and Safety’s spokesperson Saki Mohono says the strategy emanates from the discussions held at the Provincial Crime Prevention Summit in April this year and was approved by the Provincial Executive Council on the 26 June 2013.

“High levels of crime deprive residents and visitors to the province of their rights and dignity and scare off investors needed for the growth and development of the Free State. We are working together with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders regarding the prevention of crime a priority and want to contribute to the effort of reducing crime and securing stability in the province,” he says.

Once implemented, Mohono says the strategy will serve as a hallmark for all crime prevention initiatives. “It will also establish a comprehensive policy framework which will enable the police and other law enforcement agencies to address crime in a coordinated and focused manner which draws on the resources of all government agencies as well as civil society,” he says.

Mohono says the launch will see various activities unfolding in the Bloemspruit area which includes demolition of dilapidated buildings, grading of streets, house numbering, special crime prevention operations by members of the police, registration for grants by the Social Development and the Department of Home Affairs will have a special unit available where people can apply for Identity Documents.
