A Free State farmer is facing two separate charges of murder. Police spokesperson, Zweli Mohobeleli, says 34-year-old, Josef van Eeden, briefly appeared in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court yesterday after a farm worker Johannes Mahlaku, died in a local hospital on Saturday.
Mohobeleli says it is alleged that Van Eeden drove over Mahlaku, on a farm outside Bethlehem on Friday. Mahlaku, originally from Lesotho, succumbed due to his injuries.
Van Eeden is expected to apply for bail today. The second case against Van Eeden regards an incident late last year when he allegedly shot and killed a 36-year old man. The deceased, allegedly wanted to attack Van Eeden with an axe after which he was shot.
