South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that 21 national parks across the country will offer free entry to visitors for one week in September.
The initiative aims to foster pride in South Africa’s rich natural, cultural, and historical heritage, which is protected and preserved within the national parks system. The free entry does not apply to accommodation or other tourist activities.
On Sunday, 21 September, a special event will be held at the Kruger National Park to launch the 20th annual South African National Parks Week. The week will run from 22 to 26 September, with some parks extending the offer to 27 and 28 September.
Since its introduction in 2006, National Parks Week has drawn a surge of day visitors to participating parks, raising awareness about conservation while giving South Africans the chance to experience the country’s natural beauty.
“SA National Parks Week has proved to be a successful campaign that provides education and awareness about South Africa’s inclusive approach to conservation. While offering visitors the chance to experience the country’s rich natural and cultural heritage, the campaign also highlights sustainable development practices made possible through partnerships with key stakeholders, including communities living adjacent to national parks, businesses, scientists, and tourists,” SANParks said.
