Police in the Free State are not ruling out the possibility of foul play after two offices at the Kagisanong Detective Unit in Bloemfontein erupted in flames on Thursday, 7 March.
Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the fire brigade managed to control the fire and succeeded in preventing the flames from spreading throughout the Kagisanong Police Station in the Bochabela Township.
The fire is said to have started at around 05:00 am. The officials were unable to save documents and furniture in the two offices. Makhele says community members with pending cases at the affected police station should not be alarmed.
“The Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Jones Qhobosheane, assures the community that their cases won’t be affected in any manner as we have back-up documents in case there’s anything which might have been destroyed in the fire,” says Makhele. He stresses that investigations into cases opened by the community will continue.
Police confirm they are investigating a case of malicious damage to property and have addressed all the relevant personnel to gain an idea of what occurred, and what caused the flames. No one was injured in the incident.
