OFM reports that according to the investigating officer, Bokvel Pietersen, several illegal connections that proved he was bypassing electricity and water from the Municipality were found at his house.
Bokvel says stolen municipal property estimated to be worth R90 000 were also found at his house and confiscated. This includes a compressor, two generators, a welding machine, pre-signed requisitions for petrol and diesel, amongst others.

The municipality’s spokesperson, Kgojane Matutle, says the suspect worked at the municipality for more than fifteen years. He was dismissed after being caught stealing petrol. He appeared shortly at the Welkom Magistrate’s Court and was released on bail yesterday.
OFM News previously reported two employees of the municipality were allegedly found in possession of copper cables worth R120 000 in Odendaalsrus in late December last year. One suspect was arrested on the scene while two others fled leaving behind a vehicle that belongs to one of the municipality’s electricians. They were also arrested later.
