The Moqhaka municipality – that includes Kroonstad, Steynsrus and Viljoenskroon – is the first municipality that implemented water shedding as from today. According to a statement, released by the municipality, water would not be available in Matlwangtlwang in Steynsrus from eight o’clock at night until six o’clock in the morning every day. Residents in Rammultosi, Viljoenskroon will have to do without running water from six o’clock at night until four o’clock the next morning every day – except on Saturdays and in Maokeng in Kroonstad taps will be dry from eight at night until four in the morning every day, except on Saturdays. Further water restriction measures include that residents are not allowed to use of their hosepipes to wash vehicles, watering their lawns and no micro irrigation system may be used. Swimming pool owners are also not allowed to empty or fill up their pools and the housing of hard surfaces is prohibited. The municipality indicated that residents who do not comply with the restrictions can receive a maximum fine of R2, 000.00 or imprisonment. – Cathy Dldlodlo
