Duane Petrus – The Free State could have the first female Judge President if President Jacob Zuma follows the recommendations made to him.
After the conclusion of yesterday’s interviews to fill this position in Cape Town, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) recommended Judge Mafube Molemela as the best candidate.
Judge Molemela was up against judges Connie Mocumie, Jake Moloi and current acting Judge President and the most experienced of the interviewees, Judge Mojafela Rampai.
The president has never in the past made a decision to appoint someone different from who had been recommended by the JCS.
If appointed, Judge Molemela will be the second female Judge President in the country after Judge Monica Leeuw of North West.
