If you live in Universitas Ridge and you have seen these blue-and-yellow cameras watching your every move, don’t fear. It is only part of Fidelity-ADT Security’s campaign to ensure greater community safety.
Ntandoyenkosi Ndokweni, marketing manager of Fidelity-ADT, says the project is all about keeping the community safe.
“The purpose of the project is to assist safety officers to fight the pandemic of hijackings and also ensure the safety of respective communities.”
The project involves License Plate Recognition, a technology that has the ability to capture a picture of passing traffic and identify a registration number seen in its view. The information is then matched to the SAPS national database to detect suspicious or stolen vehicles. Cameras are put up at the entrances, entering the neighbourhood of Universitas Ridge. Whilst it is their objective to ensure that they offer the solution to each neighbourhood, the first roll out is in Universitas Ridge. Fidelity-ADT will then measure the success rate and increase the footprint.
“We strongly believe that the smart pro-active solution will not only assist us in being more efficient, but also assist institutions such as the South African Police Service, Community Policing Forum (CPF) and various security companies in making communities safer one day at a time,” says Ndokweni.
Whilst their aim is to keep the safety of civilians and their assets top of mind, they strongly believe that CPF as well as SAPS will benefit from the solution.
