The third annual horse racing event was recently hosted by Agripreneur Farmers Institute at Gladstone Trust in Thaba Nchu, a few kilometres from Bloemfontein.
According to Makeba Litlhare from the Agripreneur Farmers Institute the tournament, which was held in collaboration with BlindloveAfrica, had about 73 horses competing in triple and flat racing. The winners in the different categories walked away with bags of feed, halters, awards, bits and horse leads.
“We are growing each and every year. Our target for this year was to have 70 horses competing but we managed to host 73 horses, which really shows how people are getting interested in the work we do. We want to see our rural youth developing and being motivated to push their talents and passion.
“We are indeed farmers with ideas who are looking forward to more rural development. As a young group of agricultural and financial graduates, we believe in bio-diversity, fulfilling dreams and uplifting people,” said Litlhare.
He added that they had Claire Amm, a world renowned horse expert as a guest, all the way from the Alpha Appaloosa Horse Studio, as well as Maxime Molenkamp. According to Litlhare, winners of the competition for the day were Lehlohonolo Leburu, Hlompho Nomo, Selomo Phetisang for the triple race and Motlatsi Mamome, Mahoto Avilwe and Tebogo Leshome in the flat race.
Litlhare concluded by saying they hope more young people will be motivated to join such events and get involved in agriculture programmes.
