As the 2021 local elections draw closer, Bloemfontein Courant will continue to publish interviews with the biggest parties represented in the Mangaung Metro Council. This week we sat down with the Democratic Alliance.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Free State believes that it is the only party with a proven track record of getting things done in the areas where it is governing.
According to Hardie Viviers, DA Mangaung Caucus Leader, the party will be prioritising the needs of the residents of Mangaung by ensuring that services are delivered on time and efficiently. “We are committed to tackling and improving the living conditions of the people in Mangaung. When the residents of Mangaung vote for us, they will be voting for clean and good governance.”
The party also has a zero tolerance for corruption and will ensure that only capable and experienced officials are appointed to top positions, Viviers said.
The main public issues that the DA will tackle should it win the elections, are the provision of clean water and sanitary environment, eradication of sewage spills and frequent water shortages; an hygienic environment where proper scheduled waste removal takes place; the creation and maintenance of public spaces, proper roads without potholes; public transport that works; as well as electricity infrastructure that are being maintained and repaired. It will also dissolve Centlec.
“It is your constitutional right to vote. If you do not vote, you are taking away your constitutional right and you will effectively give your vote to the party that has over the last 27 years turned South Africa into the mess it is now.”
