Criminals cannot have control – Mashinini on Operation Fiela

Human trafficking, prostitution, illegal firearms, illegal clinics, and abortions are just some of the issues under the spotlight that Operation Fiela is looking into.

This operation is a joint operation by officials from various agencies and government departments. The MEC for the Free State Department of Police, Roads, and Transport, Sam Mashinini, was speaking about the implementation of the project, as well as the general safety status in the province. Mashinini adds that once there is a situation where there is a high crime rate, it affects the economy in that particular area.

“Criminals cannot control us in this country. We need to be very clear and deal with them by providing humanitarian assistance and empowering the highly affected communities to reaffirm confidence of South Africa in their government. That’s the purpose of this campaign. Let’s maintain peace and order in the country,” says Mashinini.

Mashinini adds that Fiela also focuses on illicit mining and music piracy. He said that people should stop buying stolen goods, as this increases crime in the country.

The purpose of Operation Fiela in the Free State is that the community can feel safe, says Mashinini.
