The newly launched Governance and Administration Cluster will focus on improving relations between national, provincial and local government by ensuring efficient and effective coordination.
According to Free State Treasury MEC, Elzabe Rockman, the cluster will also assist with improving the financial management of the provincial government towards achieving a clean audit. She was speaking at the governance and administration cluster launch in Bloemfontein.
“Our responsibilities include the facilitation of the annual budget process and legislative process associated with the quarterly and the medium term expenditure hearing and infrastructure review meetings. We will also hold engagements with the audit committees of the departments and assess the functionality of finance divisions and internal audit units of various departments,”
Rockman, who’s also the cluster’s chairperson, said they will be cooperating closely with the economic and social cluster to ensure coordination and alignment of governmental activities within the province.
“We will be outlining the cluster’s programme of action by focusing on the key performance areas that include public service enhancing capacity of the state, the fight against fraud and corruption and our relationship with municipalities. The cluster has a number of areas that we will be responsible for.”
