Centlec updates residents on widespread power outages

Centlec has provided an update on the ongoing power outages affecting several areas of Mangaung, including Phase 2, Hillside View, Batho Location, and Hamilton.

The utility confirmed that Hillside View is experiencing an extended outage following a fault in the re-energised network. “The problem has been identified, and excavation work is underway,” said acting Centlec spokesperson, Tseliso Leba.

Other areas impacted include Batho Location, Oranjesig, Old East End, Buitesig, and parts of the CBD, where a fault at Centlec’s Coal Yard Distribution Centre has disrupted supply. The outage has also affected Centlec’s communication systems, including its 24-hour Call Centre.

“Our dedicated teams are on-site attending to all identified faults,” Leba said. “Once repairs are completed, power will be gradually restored to all affected areas.”

The utility was unable to provide an estimated restoration time, citing the extent of the work required. “However, regular updates will be shared with affected residents and businesses as new information becomes available,” Leba added.

Centlec has apologised to residents and businesses for the inconvenience caused by the unplanned outage.
