The Department of Business Management in the Faculty of Management Sciences at the Central University of Technology (CUT) has over the years worked closely with the South African Board for People Practice (SABPP) to ensure its Human Resources Management (HRM) programme is demand-driven and meets industry standards.
SABPP and CUT’s Department of Business Management reached yet another milestone when students from the department launched the 11th SABPP student chapter in the country to create awareness of the importance of HR standards amongst students.
As of January 2015, the SABPP actively began creating awareness and launching student chapters at universities and colleges around South Africa. The SABPP student chapter is an exclusive Human Resource Student society, comprising of HR students who are actively registered as student members with the SABPP.
As part of developing the future talent pool, SABPP recognises the important role it can play to ensure that tertiary students are fully prepared for the industry. SABPP aims at practically preparing students to become familiar with the HR profession.
“I hope that the launch will be informative and beneficial to the department. It will help us to develop the type of HR practitioners our country needs and those that will contribute to the economic growth, HR professional and ethics issues; including corruption,” said Prof Tshedi Naong, Head of CUT’s Department of Business Management.
Marius Mayer, CEO of SABPP, said South Africa is faced with a leadership crisis that needs immediate attention. “People no longer know who to follow and trust anymore. As SABPP, we would like to see ethics within the work place and leaders who will become change agents in the country. We are proud to be associated with CUT because we see the potential this institution has in producing quality leaders that the country really needs.
Mr Xolani Mawande, SABPP COO, said he is proud that the second best student in the country to win the SABPP National Excellence Awards is from CUT.
