Business minds are expected to get together in Bloemfontein for high profile discussions, networking opportunities as well as a business brunch when the Small Business Institute (SBI), which was previously the Afrikaans Handelsinstituut (AHi), is hosting an SME Indaba on 11 October 2017. The aim of this indaba is to look at challenges and opportunities facing micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.
SBI has held a series of SME Indabas in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban. Leaders from government, the media, political and economic analysts, corporate South Africa and inspirational entrepreneurs have participated, generating debates and supporting challenges of the SBI. Some of the topics previously discussed included: that policy makers ‘think small first’ when making laws and imposing new regulations; that government and big businesses pay SMEs on time for work done satisfactorily; and that SBI members create at least two jobs by year-end.
Keynote addresses at the forthcoming indaba will be delivered by guest speaker former Free State Premier and the President of the Congress of the People (COPE), Mosiuoa Lekota and chairperson of the International Telecommunications Union Development Bank, Jay Naidoo. Panelists include Vice-Chancellor of the University of Free State, Professor Francis Petersen, for ‘The political and economic environment’ panel discussion and CEO of Galileo Capital, Theo Vorster, for ‘The political and economic environment’ panel discussion.
The indaba will be taking place on Wednesday 11 October 2017 from 08:30 until 14:00 at Ilanga Estate. Costs are R950 per delegate.
