Are you struggling to cover your costs? Is completing your degree out of the question because of financial strain? Shoprite has great news for you.
According to a recent media release, Shoprite still has funds available for university students across South Africa studying for various qualifications. All students are welcome to apply for the Shoprite bursary for 2018.
Shoprite is aware of the many challenges facing students and the company feels that it needs to help raise awareness on how students can ease their financial stress and focus on their studies.
Mbali Mahamba (23) is currently in her second year of studying for her BCom Accounting degree at the University of the Free State. She did not have the finances to complete her education but applied for a Shoprite Bursary and today she is studying without financial stress.
Mahamba said: “I’ve learnt many lessons in my two years at university. I’ve learnt to be tough-minded and not to allow obstacles to hold me back. Being an adult means taking responsibility and not relying on anyone but yourself. This is the only way of realising your dreams. I read about the bursary programme on the Shoprite Group’s website. The application process was quick and easy and my interview with Johan van der Merwe, Finance Manager at the Bloemfontein Divisional Office, was amazing. He was so friendly and kind,” she added.
Mahamba is single-mindedly following her dream and upon reaching her goal of qualifying as a Chartered Accountant, she hopes to build her mother a mansion and make her grandparents who are retired farmworkers, proud.
She described how the bursary has changed her life and has given her an opportunity of a lifetime. The media release issued last year
stated that Shoprite’s bursary programme has paid for the studies of 287 students, which translated to an investment of more than R16 million.
The bursary programme is aimed exclusively at students doing the following courses: Accounting (Chartered Accountants), Pharmacy, Retail Business Management, Logistics and IT.
Students are able to apply and find out more about the bursaries at Shoprite Holdings at (https://www.shopriteholdings.co.za/careers/Shoprite-Bursaries.html) or on the Shoprite BeMore website (https://shoprite.bursary.erecruit.co.za/candidateapp/Jobs/Browse.aspx).
