The perpetrators who robbed and killed an elderly woman in her home in Brandfort last week are still at large.
Free State police spokesperson Maselela Langa says they can’t at this stage speculate how many suspects were involved, but scene experts are following up on clues that were left at the house.
71-year-old Elizabeth du Bruyn was found murdered and tied up on her kitchen floor on Friday morning.
Two fire arms were stolen from the house. The community has expressed shock and disbelief after the murder.
Du Bruyn will be laid to rest in Brandfort on Friday morning.
Last year, the Free State town was rocked by the brutal murder of the beloved "milk lady", Annatjie Madden. She was killed in her shop in front of her house.
"We’re so terribly shocked and left without words. There was alwasy the perception that small towns are safe. It’s coming closer to home now – and we’re much more aware of our own safety these days," said Hanna Struwig, a Brandfort resident.
