Bloemfontein’s Jane Mpholo ended Women’s Month on a high note by receiving an award at the 13th Annual Fabulous Woman Awards in Johannesburg over the weekend (30/8).
Mpholo was celebrated for using performing arts as a tool to raise awareness against gender-based violence (GBV). She received the Fabulous Woman Gender-Based Violence Award.
For Mpholo, winning the award is a reminder that art is more than entertainment. “Art can aid communal healing. It gives us the space to confront our pain, find our voices, and imagine new ways of living free from violence,” she said proudly.
She expressed her gratitude to her husband, Phillimon Mehlape, as well as to the founder of the Fabulous Woman Awards, Pontsho Manzi, for creating a platform that uplifts South African women making an impact in their communities.
“Through telling my own story, I found my voice—and in the process, I became a voice for those who have been silenced, helping them find their own voices again.”
Mpholo walked away with more than an award. She is ready to continue on the journey to champion healing, transformation, and empowerment through the performing arts.
The Fabulous Woman Awards is an initiative of the Fabulous Girls Foundation launched in 2013 to honour and celebrate excellent African women and girls. It aims to uplift and empower young women through mentorship and partnerships.
