Bloemfontein police constable succumbs to injuries

The 30-year old police constable that was shot during an armed attack at the Sonskyn Satellite police station in Bloemspruit earlier this month, has died.

Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo confirmed that Jongindaba Mtiyane died in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

This comes after three armed men wearing balaclavas stormed the police station on the evening of 2 February and started shooting at the two constables on duty.

A shootout ensued and the constable was shot three times. His partner was not injured.

Mbambo says the suspects who later fled with the constable’s white Volkswagen Polo are still at large.
