Bfn man sentenced for murder of girlfriend

A 40-year-old security officer has been sentenced to 25 years direct imprisonment without the possibility of parole. This comes after the accused, Thabo Clement Motseki, was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend.

The incident took place on 21 June 2019 when Motseki went to meet his girlfriend, 44-year-old Motshidisi Ellen Tlatsa, who was sitting in her car parked at the Shoprite Complex in Rocklands, Bloemfontein. Motseki met up with Tlatsa with his service vehicle and uniform. He later joined her in her vehicle.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Thandi Mbambo an argument then erupted between the couple, after which Motseki fatally shot the deceased with his service pistol. It is alleged that he refused to accept that the relationship was over.

Motseki then drove with his company vehicle to the Kagisanong SAPS where he handed himself over. “He was immediately arrested and charged with murder. He was found guilty on 25 November 2020 and sentenced on 19 March 2021,” said Mbambo.

The Provincial Police Commissioner of Free State, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane, commended the investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Mokete Motsoai for the excellent and thorough investigation.
