Bartimea School for the deaf and blind in unkempt state

The school ground and infrastructure at the Bartimea School for the Deaf and Blind at Thaba Nchu is in a devastating state. This comes from Free State MEC of Public Works and Infrastructure Sam Mashinini during the department’s site visits.

The school’s administration building was set alight last June by protesting learners who were unhappy about a fence built at the school. Mashini says whoever is responsible for the incomplete work will have own up or the face the brunt of the law.

Until now the admin building is still under construction while the school has trenches that have been left open and pose as a danger for the physically challenged learners at the school.

Among the various unfinished construction work in the school is a playground that is filled with potholes and running sewage. A school official sited the construction company responsible for the revamping of the school began work in November 2013.

The official added one of their other big problem on the school grounds is vandalism committed by the constructors on site.
