Angry residents ‘shut down’ bus depot construction

Community members of Heidedal have shutdown construction at the IPTN Depot in New East End this morning. About seven construction vehicles were escorted from the site under the eye of angry residents to ensure that no work continues.

According to Donald Constable of the Ward 16 and 47 Business Forum, at least 30% of the project has to benefit the community. “People from outside our ward are given contracts here while things continue the same way for its people. There is a high level of unemployment,” said Constable.

“The only way to create employment is by creating opportunities. So we want to make it clear that from now on nothing is going to go on in these wards without consultation,” he added.

Outraged residents stood outside the construction area where the bus depot of the much anticipated IPTN is set to take place. Threatening burn down the site they are awaiting further information.
