A 16-year-old Free State teenage girl will on Thursday re-appear at the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate’s Court on charges of human trafficking.
OFM News reports that the girl is out on bail after she was released into the care of her parents in 2020. She was arrested in Zamdela, Sasolburg, in December 2020 for her alleged involvement in the kidnapping of two 15-year-old girls. The suspect and the two girls, who are scholars at the Mafube Intermediate School, were reported missing in Phuthaditjhaba in November last year and the two girls were later found outside a tavern in Sasolburg.
Meanwhile, the Hawks’ provincial spokesperson, Christopher Singo, told OFM News that no other arrests have been made and that they are still looking for another suspect in connection with the kidnapping of the two 15-year-old girls.
Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, previously told OFM News that the preliminary investigations revealed that the girls were lured from their homes and used for prostitution by unknown foreign nationals. Makhele added that the girls’ school uniforms were found in a dustbin outside one of the girls’ family home, which then prompted the investigation into their disappearance.
