Bloemfontein is growing more and more by the year as a hub of social, economic and even recreational activity in the province. One new exciting addition to the activities residents of the metro city can participate in, is the Absa MTB Eliminator Series, which debuted in Bloem two weeks ago at the Montebello Estate.
Explaining what the event is all about, Adrian Saffy, co-founder of Pure Adventures, the company that organises the series, says, “This series, which is new to Bloemfontein, is a mountain biking race format where 4 riders race each other in heats with the top 2 riders per heat progressing through to the following round, culminating in the final 4 riders taking part in the final race.”
He also adds that the route is a short, spectator-friendly one, laced with obstacles and cornering to break speed and test skill of the participants. As a lifestyle brand, Saffy also says that this event seeks to promote cycling as part of a healthy lifestyle and hopefully, this will be one activity residents of Bloemfontein will be keen to take part in.
Having Audi Bloemfontein on board as one of the partners of the event, Jannie van den Heever, principal dealer at Audi Bloemfontein, says, “To motivate those taking part in the series, we request them to book a test drive in one of our Audi vehicles and from that, draw the name of someone we will give one of our cars to drive for two days. We will also be doing this at the upcoming events, which will be taking place every month for the next three months.”
Last week, cyclist Dercksen Olivier was the chosen winner of the two-day Audi experience through the Eliminator series and could then drive the Audi Q3 for two days. Olivier could not wait to test drive the German machine and thanked both Audi and Pure Adventures for the experience.
The next series will be on
12 April 2017 from 17:30 to 20:30 and entry per person will be R50. For more information or to enter, email Adrian Saffy at [email protected]. – Pulane Choane
