World Consumer Rights Day 2019 to be celebrated in Sasolburg

“Trusted Smart Products”. That is the theme for this year’s World Consumer Rights Day, which will be celebrated by the Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs through its Consumer Protection Office. The celebrations will be taking place at the Harry Gwala Multipurpose Centre, Sasolburg starting at 09:00.

World Consumer Rights Day, which is celebrated annually on the 15th of March, is a day which promotes the basic rights of all consumers. All citizens are encouraged to demand that those rights are respected and protected, and to protest the market abuses and social injustices which undermine them.

Issues that are of concern to consumers that will be discussed are:

  • Online shopping
  • Electronic payments
  • Online auctions
  • Internet banking
  • Online ticketing

As part of the programme for the day, there will be testimonies from customers who have been assisted by the Free State Consumer Protection Office, a presentation by the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) as well as from the Motor Industry Ombudsman of SA (MIOSA).

An e-Complaint System, which is a new electronic system that consumers can use to lodge complaints will also be launched. – Seithati Semenokane
