Kroonstad residents received 500 000 thousand litres of water from various community organisations including civil rights organisation AfriForum, on Saturday.
This follows the main water sources of Moqhaka Municipality comprising amongst others-Kroonstad, Viljoenskroon and Steynsrus-are bone dry, in an area that needs more than 45 million litres a day. The civil rights organisation aims to provide an additional 90 000 thousand litres of water to various schools at the Kroonstad area during the course of this week.
AfriForum’s Charles Castle emphasises the importance of assisting communities affected by water shortages.
“We distributed water at a community hall, church and various schools. I think it’s important for communities to take note that everybody needs to get involved assisting their fellow community members and should be everybody in South Africa. It’s important to also take note that, where a municipality fail its community, that community can also mobilise and in the event help themselves to be less reliable on the state,” he explains.
