The Mangaung Metro Municipality (MMM) has notified residents that waste collection services will resume from today (27/05), following disruptions caused by protests earlier this week. The municipality said waste collection operations have resumed across the city as services gradually return to normal.
“The recent disruptions to public transport prevented several residents, including municipal employees, from reporting for duty,” said the municipality. They added that the municipality was directly affected by a shortage of manpower, resulting in changes to collection schedules and some areas experiencing delays in waste removal.
According to the municipality, measures had to be taken to protect vehicles, equipment, and personnel from damage and harm during the unrest, which led to the temporary suspension of collection services. “Protecting these assets is essential to ensuring that services continue to be delivered effectively, safely, and sustainably to all residents.”
Residents are urged to place their waste out for collection according to the normal schedule.
