Vandalism at Centlec substation causes power outage

Parts of Mangaung have been left without electricity following an incident of vandalism and illegal entry at one of Centlec’s substations.

Centlec confirmed that its technical team responded to reports of a disruption at the MSS2 substation. Upon arrival, officials discovered evidence of illegal entry and significant damage to infrastructure.

According to the utility, items found at the scene included a candle, severed conductor pieces, burnt busbars and stolen earthing materials. The extent of the damage has necessitated a comprehensive safety assessment before repair work can proceed.

Centlec assured affected residents that restoration efforts are underway and that technicians remain on site to expedite the repair process. “Centlec gives its firm undertaking that power supply will be restored. Our team remains on site at this moment to expedite the repair process,” the utility said.
