Two provincial departments are tabling their budgets today – the Departments of Social Development and Sport, Arts and Culture.
The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture is expected to address the future of the controversial Macufe Festival today. This follows after the Auditor-General made several findings around this multi-million rand flagship showcase.
Questions on how the same company was awarded the tender to host and manage the festival over several financial years without proper tender procedures have been raised. Opposition parties in the Provincial Legislature slammed the department, labelling the festival a money-laundering scheme meant to enrich politically connected individuals.
