On April 15, 1923, insulin became widely available as a treatment for diabetes.
Diabetes was one of the first diseases described, with an Egyptian manuscript from c. 1500 BCE mentioning ‘too great emptying of the urine’. Diabetes had been a fatal disease until medical breakthroughs in the early 1920s.
