• 1939: Evelyn Dalberg, SA opera singer, is born in Germany.
• 1981: The State Theatre in Pretoria opens
• 1960: "Got A Girl" by The Four Preps hits #24.
• 1971: Rock group Iron Butterfly disbands.

Sports:

• 1964: The SA rugby team beats Wales in Durban 24-3.
• 2002: Bafana Bafana, the SA soccer team, beats Turkey 2-0.
• 1883: Baseball game between one-armed & one-legged players.
• 1993: Val Skinner wins LPGA Lady Keystone Golf Open
