A teenage boy yesterday died after falling from a trailer behind a tractor on a farm near Warden in the Eastern Free State.
Police spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, says a 24-year-old farm worker was driving a tractor, pulling a trailer with bales of fodder for cattle on the farm.
According to him, the driver was not aware that three boys between the ages of 15 and 16 jumped onto the trailer while he was driving the tractor.
According to Mophiring the driver did not see the boys at the back of the trailer. He only became aware that a boy has fallen from the trailer when bystanders indicated to him there was an accident. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Mophiring says the deceased and the other two boys are staying on the same farm on which the accident happened. He says the name of the deceased is not going to be released at this stage. He says it is not known yet what lead to the boy falling from the trailer. – Christal-Lize Muller/Courant News
