The Premier Soccer League club Siwelele FC has confirmed a venue change for their next two fixtures, which will be played in Bloemfontein.
Unlike the other club from the city, Marumo Gallants, Siwelele will play their matches at Toyota Stadium. Marumo, in turn, confirmed last week that, for the foreseeable future, their home league fixtures will be contested at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Rocklands is undergoing urgent upgrades to the pitch and infrastructure to meet the required PSL standards.
The pitch at Toyota Stadium, meanwhile, is in mint condition, and recent upgrades have been made to restore its status to host international rugby matches again in future – an important boost for the city’s sports tourism and economy.
Siwelele will face TS Galaxy as well as Gavin Hunt’s Stellenbosch FC at the stadium over the next week, which is welcome news for fans, given that little football has been played in Bloemfontein in recent weeks.
The club confirmed the venue change via a short statement. “We would like to inform you of an important update regarding our next home fixtures: Siwelele FC vs TS Galaxy on 28 February and Siwelele FC vs Stellenbosch FC on 3 March.
“Due to the ongoing pitch maintenance at Dr Molemela Stadium, our matches have been relocated to Toyota Stadium.
“We appreciate your understanding and continued support. No matter the circumstances, we will continue to play all our home games on home soil.”
Saturday’s game at Toyota Stadium between Siwelele and the Rockets will kick off at 18:00. – MORGAN PIEK
