Bloemfontein’s Zane Muller has mastered the art of balancing the many hats he wears in the local arts, culture and entertainment scene. To celebrate a year of success as a creative, Zane acknowledges the local arts community for being instrumental in his journey.
The founder of the House of Dirty Shakers (HDS) is also a theatre practitioner, film producer, choreographer, and creative director who has built his reputation over the last 22 years. Reflecting on the projects his team worked on this year, Zane noted that the synergy between music, performance and culture allowed the team to engage with new audiences while pushing creative boundaries.
“Our resilience as a team, along with support from entities like the National Arts Council, the University of the Free State, and the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State (Pacofs), enabled us to overcome these obstacles.
Their collaboration and belief in our mission played a vital role in sustaining our efforts to nurture and showcase exceptional talent,” he expressed.
Zane is grateful for the opportunities that allowed his team to partake in national projects like the Driving Education Culture Competition that was hosted by the Chinese Consulate-General in Johannesburg, among others.
“The local community, especially through initiatives like these, continues to inspire and support our work, allowing us to make a tangible difference,” he said.
According to him, managing resources while maintaining high standards of performance and mentorship was a challenge but witnessing the growth and confidence of these emerging talents has been deeply fulfilling for Zane.
“Believe in your vision, stay committed to your craft, and embrace opportunities for learning and growth. The arts require perseverance, but the rewards of creating meaningful work are unmatched,” he advised.
Zane would like to thank HDS’ supporters for believing in the vision for 2024 as they prepare for a new year. “Together, we’ll continue to uplift the arts and inspire the next generation,” he concluded.
