The construction of the road between Sasolburg and Heilbron will resume on Monday. According to the Department of Police, Roads and Transport roadworks on the route will provide 516 jobs during the construction period.
“The main objectives of the department is to create job opportunities during the project, to invest in the human resources through skills development and training and to provide sustainable infrastructure in Metsimaholo Local Municipality,” said spokesperson Hillary Mophethe.
The majority of job positions involved in the project will be held by women. “A total of 516 people will be employed during this project for the duration of 2 years. About 310 or 60% percent are women while 206 or 40% are men, 2% of whom are individuals with disability,” she said.
A small part of the 51 km stretch of road has already been completed since construction began last year. “The upgrading of Sasolburg and Heilbron road was suspended in 2018 November due to unforeseen circumstances. About 3 km was completed in 2018 and 48 km is outstanding and will be completed,” added Mophethe.
