Dihlabeng municipality in the eastern Free State warns Rosendal residents to use water sparingly. The municipality consists of towns Bethlehem, Clarens and Paul Roux amongst others.
According to municipal spokesperson Tshediso Maitse, Rosendal is experiencing water shortages. The warning comes after Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane announced on Sunday, that the country is facing severe water crisis. In her announcement, Mokonyane said her department might have to reduce water supplies if the drought affecting large parts of the country continued.
Maitse says the municipality will introduce water restrictions once the situation gets worse.
“Due to the current drought condition being experienced in Rosendal, we have been experiencing insufficient water supply. We request our residents to use water sparingly. Water of lawns, cars and other nonessential services should be stopped until the situation gets better.”
