Police monitor Universitas patient

SABRINA DEAN – Police remain on high alert at Universitas Hospital this morning after a group of unknown men stormed the hospital last night and tried to intimidate staff into releasing a gunshot victim.
Police spokesperson Chaka Marope confirmed the incident and says although the situation is back to normal this morning police are still monitoring it. "Last night a group of unknown men allegedly stormed the hospital at around 11.30 and intimidated staff to release an unknown man who was admitted several days ago with gunshot wounds," he said.
He says police cannot yet confirm whether or not the incident was gang related. "We are still continuing with investigations," he said.
Marope says investigations into the actual shooting are also still underway and he was unable to confirm whether that might be related to gang violence.
He confirmed that the gunshot victim is still in hospital and that police remain on "high alert".
According to information provided to OFM the gunshot victim is on life support and last night’s incident was perpetrated by gang members who wanted to switch off the machines. However, Marope was unable to confirm these allegations.
