Plan your journey before you hit the road this Easter weekend

School holidays and the Easter weekend is upon us and it may be time for a road trip. Whether you are heading to the beach? or going to the bush? Don’t be stranded.

Planning ahead can make all the difference when embarking on a road trip. Arrive Alive encourages road users to prepare properly before setting off, ensuring a safer and less stressful journey.

Arrive Alive advises motorists to map out their routes in advance, including scheduling rest stops and identifying key towns along the way – especially when travelling on back roads. Sticking to major routes or toll roads where possible can offer added peace of mind. Using GPS navigation or a road atlas can further assist drivers in estimating travel times and reaching destinations safely and on schedule.

Pre-planning tips from Arrive Alive:
– Ensure your vehicle is roadworthy before departure.
– Check all lights, indicators, windscreen wipers, brakes, steering, exhaust system and tyres for faults.
– Take your vehicle for a full check before holiday travel.
– Do not overload your vehicle.
– Rest well before your journey.
– Take safety breaks every two hours or 200 km.
– Never drink and drive. If you plan to consume alcohol, make alternative arrangements.
– Stay alert and avoid distractions such as phone calls or texting.
– Always wear your seatbelt and ensure all passengers do the same.
